A season of performing arts

Music, dance and theater events light up the holidays

The holiday performing arts season kicks off this week, so now is the time to make plans and purchase tickets. This year, why not give a holiday performance as a gift? Tickets make great gifts while supporting local arts organizations at the same time.

Here's a sampling of upcoming holiday arts performances:

Dance

“The Nutcracker”: 2 p.m. & 7 p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 & 6, Edmonds-based Olympic Ballet Theatre presents its annual full-length production of the holiday ballet, at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N, Edmonds. “A Christmas Story”: 8 p.m. Thursdays- Saturdays 2 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 27-Dec. 20, the Edmonds Driftwood Players present a stage play version based on the classic 1983 holiday movie about a boy and his quest for the perfect Christmas present, at the Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds. “KDWP Radio presents H C Anderson's ‘The Snow Queen'”: 2 p.m. Saturdays, 7 p.m. Sundays, Dec. 5-13, Driftwood Players Alternative Stages presents Hans Christian Anderson's classic fairy tale, reinvented for live radio broadcast with audience participation. Performance will be recorded live by KMPS radio to be included in their holiday programming. At the Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds. “The Eight: Reindeer Monologues”: Midnight Fridays & Saturdays, Dec. 11-19, the Driftwood Players Late Night series presents this unconventional tale about Santa's reindeer and revelations of how things really are at the North Pole, at the Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds. “Le Chat Noel: A Christmas Cabaret”: 7 p.m. Friday & Saturday, Dec. 11 & 12, North Sound Church hosts its annual Christmas Dessert Theatre, featuring an evening of song and drama in the style of a French cabaret, at the Edmonds Conference Center, 201 Fourth Ave. N. Magical Strings Celtic Yuletide Concert: 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council presents the musical Boulding family's 31st annual concert at the Shorecrest Performing Arts Center, 15343 25th Ave. NE, Shoreline, featuring the Raney Irish Dancers, lyrical juggler Thomas Arthur, vocalists Mark and Colleen Raney and special guests. “Through the Eyes of Angels”: 4 p.m. & 6 p.m. Saturday Dec. 5, 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St., hosts its annual Christmas program featuring more than 70 vocalists, instrumentalists, percussionists, string players, and guest tenor Kenneth Gayle. Handel's “Messiah”: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, Northwest Chorale performs Handel's oratorio, featuring Kathy Barlow, soprano; Emily Lunde, alto; Paul Karaitis, tenor; and Michael Drumheller, bass, with the Starry Night Chamber Orchestra, at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St..
