Plan for I-5 closures this week

It will be a busy week for construction on I-5 this week with several closures of lanes and ramps planned while crews work on big projects.

Closures are planned around the construction of a bus station in the I-5 median in Mountlake Terrace, for construction of a footbridge over 44th Avenue W. in Lynnwood, and for work to install new concrete barriers in the I-5 median in Marysville.

On Tuesday night, crews plan to completely close northbound I-5 between Highway 104 at the King-Snohomish county line and 220th Street SW in Mountlake Terrace. Crews are preparing to install girders that will support a new pedestrian bridge over the freeway between the bus station and the 236th Street SW parking garage.

The first lane will close at 7 p.m., with all lanes closed by 11:30 p.m. Crews will also close the onramp from Highway 104 at 10 p.m.

Drivers will be detoured to northbound Highway 99 and will reconnect with northbound I-5 via 220th Street SW.

Crews also plan to close the offramp to 236th Street SW at 10 p.m. Drivers will be detoured along 244th Street SW and 56th Avenue W.

The ramps and three right lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday. The carpool lane will reopen by 10 a.m.

On Wednesday and Thursday, crews will close up to three right lanes of northbound I-5 beginning at 8 p.m. from just north of Highway 104 to 220th Street SW.

Also at 8 p.m., crews will close the onramp from Highway 104 to northbound I-5 and the offramp to 236th Street SW.

All lanes and ramps will reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning.

The $40.9 million project is due to be done in early 2011.

On Wednesday and Thursday in Lynnwood, crews plan to close the carpool lane from 44th Avenue W. to southbound I-5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the pedestrian overpass project. On Friday, the main onramp lane will be closed but not the carpool lane, and the left turn from northbound 44th Avenue W. to the southbound I-5 onramp also will be closed. Drivers will be detoured to 196th Street SW and the I-5 onramp at 36th Avenue W.

The city of Lynnwood and the state are building a $3.9 million pedestrian bridge over 44th Avenue W. at the Lynnwood park-and-ride lot to close a gap in the Interurban Trail. Work is expected to be done this summer.

In Marysville, crews will close two left lanes on northbound I-5 from south of 116th Street NE to just south of 172nd Street NE for work on the median barriers. The closures will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night to Friday morning. On the southbound side, crews will close the left lane of I-5 from south of 172nd to south of 116th Street NE from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the same days.

The $18.9 million barrier project is expected to be done by the end of the year.
