EUUC puts on ‘Pants & Shoes’

Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Church hosts the return of Captain Smartypants and Sensible Shoes, the vocal ensembles of Flying House Productions and the Seattle Men’s and Women’s Choruses, in a Friday, Feb. 5 concert.

The largest community chorus organization in the country, the Seattle Men’s and Women’s Choruses are known for their tight harmonies, intricate arrangements, and mix of music both beautiful and humorous.

Captain Smartypants and Sensible Shoes are both small specialized ensembles made up of members of the larger choruses.

Captain Smartypants’ last three shows, ‘Trousers of Terror,’ ‘PowerPants!’ and ‘Cirque du Slaque,’ played to packed houses in Seattle and beyond. Their latest show ‘Air Smarty’, which featured guest artists Waxie Moon and Bobbi Kotula, just concluded its run at the historic Columbia City Theatre on Rainier Avenue this past June.

Captain Smartypants has performed with Ann Wilson, Melissa Manchester, Megan Mullally, Kristin Chenoweth and Lea Delaria, and was Seattle’s warm-up act for Margaret Cho when she filmed “The Notorious C.H.O.” in 2002. The link to their performance of ‘Kislev Cowboys’ has received over 500,000 hits on YouTube and was featured on NPR’s ‘Hearing Voices’ in November 2008.

Sensible Shoes is an ensemble of Seattle Women’s Chorus, a pop and vocal jazz group in the tradition of groups like Captain Smartypants and Emerald City Volunteers. This group of women balance great vocal delivery with fun, innovative staging.

The previous concert sold out early two years ago, so advance purchase is recommended to guarantee seating. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. Parental discretion is advised.

Coffee, tea, and punch served, with cookies available for purchase. Proceeds go to performance expenses and operating fund.
