Sno-King communities gear up for Independence Day

Communities along the Snohomish-King County line are getting ready for their annual celebrations of Independence Day, and residents come out in droves to enjoy large fireworks displays, children's activities, food and entertainment. Here's a rundown of the events planned in your city.

Lynnwood Star Spangled Celebration

The City of Lynnwood celebrates its 50th anniversary as it hosts its annual Star Spangled Celebration from 5:30 p.m. to 10:35 p.m. Saturday, July 4 at the Lynnwood Athletic Complex, 3001-184th St. SW. Admission is free.

The evening will feature a costume parade, an aerial fireworks display choreographed to music, a variety of live stage and field entertainment, an art mural, balloon artists, face painters, jugglers, inflatables, and food and dessert booths.

Dessert and beverage booths will be open from 6-10 p.m. Balloon artists, jugglers, clowns, face painters, and inflatables will be on hand throughout the evening. Families can also help paint Lynnwood's 50th Birthday Art Mural.

Stage performances begin at 6 p.m. with the soul, funk and reggae of Luc and the Lovingtons, and continue at 7:30 p.m. with The High Rollers, a nine piece group performing classic hits from bands like Earth, Wind & Fire to Santana. The party goes into full swing at 9 p.m. with Seattle's critically acclaimed Left Hand Smoke performing a blend of neo-soul and rock.

The highlight of the evening will be a colorful, 20-minute aerial fireworks display at 10:15 p.m., choreographed to music. For more information call 425-670-5732, or visit www.ci.lynnwood.wa.us/parks.

Edmonds Kind of 4th

Now celebrating its 102nd year, this all-day event in downtown Edmonds gets started with a 5K Fun Run at 10 a.m., then continues with the Children's Parade at 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Fifth & Walnut. At noon the main parade commences at 6th Ave. between Main & Dayton. This year's Grand Marshal is none other than local legend J.P. Patches.

Families are invited to bring a picnic, throw out a blanket or take a seat in the Civic Stadium grandstand at 7:30 p.m. for live music with the Lost Vuarnets and other celebratory activities. Food and beverage vendors as well as novelty vendors will be present in the stadium. Then at 10 p.m., the celebration culminates with the annual fireworks display. Lake Forest Park Fireworks

The Sheridan Beach Club, 16500 Shore Drive NE, opens to the public for a fireworks display on the 4th of July. Parking is limited; park at city hall, at the corner of Ballinger Way and Bothell Way, and and walk over. The fireworks begin at approximately 10:15 p.m.

Bothell Freedom Festival & Fireworks

Independence Day in the city of Bothell begins a day early with the Patriot Dance from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 3 at the Park at Bothell Landing, 9919 NE 180th St., featuring a performance by Dance Factory.

July 4 gets started with the annual Bothell Fire and EMS pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Bothell's Downtown Firehouse, 10726 Beardslee Blvd. At 11:15 a.m. the Children's Parade starts at 104th & Main St. and winds its way to the intersection of NE 188th St. & SR 527.

At noon the Grand Parade, with the theme "Happy Birthday Bothell" in honor of the city's centennial, follows the same route. Visitors can gather in the park at Bothell Landing to tour the Hannan House, Beckstrom Log Cabin, Schoolhouse from 1 to 4 p.m., enjoy a concert with The Seachordsmen at 1:30 p.m.; and a re-enactment of the Battle of Concord at 2 p.m. All events are free.

The city of Bothell has coordinated with the cities of Kenmore and Woodinville again this year to present a fireworks display over Lake Washington at 10 p.m. at Kenmore's Log Boom Park, off Bothell Way at 60th Pl. NE. For more information visit www.ci.bothell.wa.us.

Everett's All-American Fourth

Everett celebrates Independence Day with a number of events (some free, some requiring admission fees), beginning at 7 a.m. with the annual pancake breakfast at the Flying Pig Brewing Company. At 9 a.m., the Everett Family YMCA's Yankee Doodle Dash includes a 5K and 10K fun run and a one-mile family fun run. The Colors of Freedom Parade on Colby & Wetmore between Wall & 26th starts at 11 a.m.

The Colors of Freedom Festival features live music, kids' activities, a beer and wine garden, and a food court at Legion Park, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett.

Family Fourth at Lake Union

For the 21st year fireworks explode above the shores of Seattle's Gas Works Park, with the festivities kicking off at noon featuring family activities throughout the park grounds, food vendors catering to the most diverse palates, and a beer garden with a lake view. The evening programming begins at 10 p.m. and will be digitally timed to patriotic music and simulcast on JACK 96.5 FM, or KZOK 102.5 FM. KING 5 television will be broadcasting the fireworks live in HD beginning at 10 p.m. More information available at familyfourth.org.
