Arbor Day event honors UW College of Forestry

Shoreline

A Katsura tree is the latest addition to the landscape at Aegis of Shoreline Callahan House following an Arbor Day tree planting on April 23.

"Everybody's going green and we want to do our part as well," executive director Judy Adams said. "Every year we want to plant a tree on our property and just give back."

The tree was specifically chosen for the spot along the front fence of the Callahan property by Norm Gildroy, manager of the Washington Tree and Lawn Care Service in Shoreline. Gildroy and president of Washington Tree and Lawn Care Service Ed Walter planted the tree donated by Molbak's Nursery during a dedication ceremony.

"This one's a great tree because it's low maintenance as far as insects and disease," Gildroy said. "In the fall it has beautiful yellow and orange colors."

The tree was dedicated in honor of the University of Washington College of Forestry and Natural Resources. A plaque near the tree commemorates the event. President of the University of Washington Alumni Association and graduate of the College of Forestry, Tom Hanson, attended the dedication. Additional assistance to the event was provided by Shoreline City Council members and the National Arbor Day Foundation.

"I can't wait to watch it grow," Adams said.
