Student organizes fundraiser for animal shelter

A Furry Friends Fundraiser for the Everett Animal Shelter will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 4. Guests and their dogs are welcome to join the community at Meadowdale Elementary School, 6505 168th St SW in Lynnwood, for an opportunity to meet other dog lovers and support the local shelter.

As part of her senior class project, Emily Hunt, a student at Meadowdale High School, is hosting the shelter fundraiser and an afternoon of entertainment to help raise awareness on animal rights. All proceeds will go directly to the Everett Animal Shelter to help support their various programs and dedicated efforts to provided services for animals in need of care.

"I was really taken back by the recent story on the news about the puppy mill in Gold Bar and decided to take action," Hunt said. "I believe the Furry Friends Fundraiser is a great opportunity to inform the community on a highly visible issue in today's media, and to educate them on how to be responsible pet owners."

Representatives from the Everett Animal Shelter will be in attendance to provide information about their services and to talk about their new residents, who were seized in January from an alleged puppy mill near Gold Bar.

The cost is $10 per person or $20 for families of four or more. To register in advance, please visit eas_rescue_fundraiser@comcast.net. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance; money will be accepted at the door.
