The Metropolitan King County Council unanimously appointed Councilmember Bob Ferguson to serve as vice-chair for policy and chair of the Committee of the Whole at the Council's Jan. 12 meeting. The Committee of the Whole considers legislation and policy issues of interest to the entire Council and is the only committee on which all nine councilmembers serve.
"Citizens are looking to their elected officials for effective leadership during these uncertain times," said Ferguson. "The Committee of the Whole will tackle complex issues that impact District 1 residents and citizens throughout King County."
Ferguson will also be a member of the following committees: Budget and Fiscal Management; Regional Policy; and Law, Justice, Health, and Human Services.
"I will continue to focus on fiscal responsibility and good government initiatives for King County, while prioritizing public safety, health, and quality of life," Ferguson said. "My committee assignments will allow me to pursue these priorities throughout 2009."
Ferguson was elected to the Council representing District 2 in 2003. Following the reduction of the 13-member Council to nine, Ferguson won his current seat representing District 1 in 2005 with 74 percent of the vote. He was the past chair of the Council's Operating Budget, Fiscal Management, and Select Issues Committee, and has served on the Council's Budget Leadership Team for the past three years.
Ferguson is a King County native and lives in North Seattle with his wife, Colleen, and their 11-month old twins, Jack and Kate. Ferguson received his bachelor's degree from the University of Washington and his law degree from New York University. He is a licensed Washington attorney.
Ferguson represents District 1, which includes North Seattle, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, Bothell, and part of Woodinville
