Vernon Invite this past Saturday, Marysville-Pilchuck coach Shelly Johnson was worried her team might be tired in Monday's contest against Everett at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. The Tomahawks proved resilient though, defeating Everett 25-12, 15-25, 25-16, 25-16 in the Wesco North match. "We knew Everett has a good club and we expected it to be a competitive match," Johnson said. Senior outside hitter Jenna Welsh led Marysville-Pilchuck (3-0 league, 6-3 overall) in kills with 14 and also had four aces. Mikayla LaRosa had 11 kills and was 16-for-16 serving with five aces. Libero Jadelyn Thompson had 34 digs. After starting strong, the Tomahawks cooled off a little in the second game and showed some sluggishness. "It was a matter of us giving up unforced errors," Johnson said. "(The team) all understand giving up errors leads to unwanted points." Ally Lund had six kills for Everett (1-1, 5-3) and Jody Barkanovich had 10 digs. Mollie Postma had 21 assists and three aces. Snohomish 3, Lake Stevens 0: At Lake Stevens, Larissa Dirks had 10 kills and five aces for Snohomish in its 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 Wesco North victory. Fellow Snohomish (1-1 league, 6-2 overall) player Jaylene Toy had five kills. Lindsey Walter of Lake Stevens (2-1, 4-5) had seven kills. Stanwood 3, Oak Harbor 1: At Oak Harbor, Kelsey Kanehan had 15 kills for Stanwood in its Wesco North victory. Teammates Rachelle Dowery and Deanna Hoppe each had 10 kills for Stanwood (1-2 league, 6-3 overall) and Chelsea Campbell had 29 assists. Jennifer Jansen led Oak Harbor with 17 kills and Jessica Muzzall had 10 kills. Melanie Cone had 33 assists for Oak Harbor (1-2, 3-6). Arlington 3, Cascade 2: At Cascade, after a strong start some resilience was necessary for the Arlington Eagles to pull out the back-and-forth 25-11, 25-16, 11-25, 24-26, 15-9 Wesco North victory. Danielle Love of Everett (1-1 league, 5-3 overall) had 11 blocks and seven aces and teammate Esther No had 14 digs. The victory moves Arlington to 1-2, 4-5. Rainier Christian 3, Darrington 2: At Darrington, Caresse Baker had 10 kills, Mandy Powell had 32 digs and Kolby Fanning served 15-for-15 with two aces for Darrington (5-3 overall) in its 13-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-18, 15-11 non-league loss. North Sound Christian 2, Marysville-Pilchuck Sophomores 1: At Marysville, outside hitter Tori Speck had six kills, six aces, five digs and a block for North Sound Christian (8-1 overall). Teammate Catherine Oakland had six aces, two kills and a block and setter Malorie Mahler had 15 assists and four aces. Girls soccer Glacier Peak 1, Kamiak 0: At Snohomish, Stephanie Cummings scored the contest's lone goal off a Miranda Granger assist in the ninth minute in a wet Wesco South game. Kamiak (2-1 league, 4-4 overall) came close on several occasions but Nicole Giovine's play in goal stunted the Knights' offensive efforts. Tana Foster kept goal for Kamiak.
