A $4 million thud in the guv's race

Posted at 2:30 pm by Jerry Cornfield

The Building Industry Association of Washington, the National Federation of Independent Business and the Washington Farm Bureau have made a $4 million deposit into their efforts to unseat Gov. Chris Gregoire.

The groups poured the money into ChangePAC, which has been conducting an ongoing campaign of TV ads attacking Gregoire and boosting Grand Old Party challenger Dino Rossi.

From a press release announcing the expenditure:

ChangePAC’s goal....is to level the playing field by providing a voice for small businesses to counter the heavy influence of big corporations, labor unions, environmental groups and tribes.

...without ChangePAC there would be a vacuum in the information voters receive.

Leaders of the political action committee argue Gregoire caters to the needs of the state’s mega-companies and ignores the plight of the small business owners who are the “workhorse” of the state’s economy.

“Washington might be a great place for Boeing to do business, but it is not a great place for small business owners,” NFIB Washington State Director Troy Nichols said in the press release.
