Meet with sheriff on Camano Island

Island County Sheriff Mark Brown plans a community outreach meeting Tuesday at Camano Senior & Community Center. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at 606 Arrowhead Road.

Sheriff Brown will discuss the future of the Island County Sheriff's Office.

Climate workshop coming to Mukilteo

A community forum called "Climate Change, Do Take It Personally!" is planned for 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Snohomish County League of Women Voters offers the program at the Black Box Theatre in Mukilteo Hall at Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.

The environmental workshop features presenters Gregg Small, executive director of Climate Solutions; Richard Gammon, University of Washington Department of Oceanography; Janice Adair, Washington State Department of Ecology; and Aaron Reardon, Snohomish County executive.

Following the workshops will be the 20-minute film "Sisters of the Planet," about four women who took environmental action around the world.

Toy drive benefits Christmas House

Member of the Goldwing Touring Association, an Everett motorcycle group, is sponsoring a stuffed-toy drive for Christmas House.

Christmas House needs stuffed toys for needy children.

Leave donations through October at Everett Powersports at 215 Everett Mall Way in Everett.

Columbus Day brings closures

Happy Columbus Day. Here are some resulting closures:

Government: Federal offices are closed. Most state and local offices are open.

Schools: Varies by district.

Post offices: Closed, although Express Mail service continues.

Commerce: Most businesses are open, most banks are closed.

Transportation: Community, Sound and Everett transit are on regular schedules. Ferries also are on regular schedules.
