That's all the time Kyle Beach needed to announce his return to Everett. In his first game in an Everett Silvertip uniform this season, Beach scored twice, including the opener in the game's first minute, leading the Tips to a 5-2 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday night at Comcast Arena. Beach has been back in Everett less than two days since returning from training camp with the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks. Welcome back, Mr. Beach. "It was a great game back," Beach said. "I really thought I connected with my linemates for only having one practice with them. I was really happy with the boys tonight. (The T-birds) made it interesting, but the boys just played that much harder." One of those linemates, Daniel Bartek, added two goals and two assists as the trio of Beach, Bartek and Kellan Tochkin (two assists) wreaked havoc in the Seattle end all night. Yep, the Tips are happy to have Beach back. "He worked hard tonight," Everett coach John Becanic said of Beach. "He's capable of doing that on a regular basis because he's talented and he does have the ability to work that hard. And Bartek, he just works hard, too. Those two guys together are very difficult to handle for 60 minutes." Jordan Mistelbacher also scored and Shayne Barrie had a solid game in net with 30 saves for the Tips, who nearly coughed up a big lead. After going up 3-0 just 9:12 into the game, the T-birds cut the lead to one before the Tips pulled away in the third period. Prab Rai and David Richard scored for Seattle (1-6-0-0), which also was welcoming back marquee players. Captain Thomas Hickey had a pair of assists in his first game back from camp with the NHL's Los Angeles Kings. Right wing Greg Scott (Toronto) also was making his first appearance after returning from a pro camp. Jacob DeSerres struggled in goal for the T-birds, giving up five goals on 33 shots. Beach was a handful throughout, particularly in a physical sense. He won battles along the boards, he was difficult to knock off the puck and he threw some big hits, the biggest of them sending Seattle defenseman Stefan Warg head over heels into his own bench. Beach capped it off with his second goal with 4:55 remaining in the game, snapping a shot past DeSerres after Bartek stole the puck behind the Seattle net and fed it our front. He even was on his best behavior. Everett's all-time career leader in penalty minutes took just one penalty Friday, and that came after the officials somehow determined receiving punches in the head constituted roughing. "While I was up (in Chicago) I really realized I don't need to do that stuff," Beach said about his prior antics. "I feel I can handle myself and I'm not going to hurt the team. "Chicago's obviously watching and I know what they expect from me," Beach added. "But the one team I have to show up for is the Everett Silvertips and that's what I'm going to do night in and night out." The first period was a track meet, the teams combining for 34 shots, with the Tips emerging with a 3-1 lead. Beach opened the scoring by poking a loose puck under DeSerres' pads into the net 54 seconds in. Mistelbacher made it 2-0 at 6:15, placing a shot into the top corner after a nice feed from Shane Harper. It was 3-0 at 9:12, Bartek scoring on a rebound on the power play. Seattle got on the board at 12:53 when Rai banged in a rebound on the power play. The T-birds closed within one at 17:39 of the second period, Richard feathering a shot into the top corner after a feed from Hickey. But the Tips secured the victory with two goals in the third. Bartek got his second on the power play at 6:53, again on a rebound before Beach completed the scoring. Slap shots: In addition to Beach, Everett welcomed right wing Matt Ius back to the lineup. Ius missed the previous three games with a concussion. Also, defenseman Paul Sohor made his first appearance of the season. ... The Tips played without defenseman Graham Potuer. Potuer suffered a concussion during Everett's 5-0 loss at Spokane on Oct. 3. ... With Scott back, Seattle center Jared Jagow has returned home to await a trade. Beach did great work with 2 goals in a big win, but I think his biggest contribution came in the third. He showed a new level of "clear-headedness" when he refused to be goaded into dropping the gloves after some close play in the crease. Instead of two five minute offsetting majors for fighting the Tips went on the power play. The result was the back-breaking goal seconds later. This was the moment that the balance of the game "tipped" his teams way for good. Excellent work. He's showing that he deserves that "A" he's wearing. Good work!
