Davenport: "My knee injury isn't old"

Posted at 7:40 pm by John Boyle

That cornerback Byron Davenport has an injured knee is agreed upon by everyone, but when and how that injury occurred is apparently up for debate.

When I and other people on the UW beat reporterd that Davenport will have surgery soon to repair an old knee injury that has resurfaced, which is what we were told by Tyrone WIllingham, Davenport apparently noticed.

Unsolicited last week, he poked his head into the media work room and said that his injury isn't, in fact, old. I caught up with him today to find out more.

Davenport injured his ankle early in fall camp, and said he thinks the knee injury happened on the same play. Doctors told Davenport that the damage to his knee looks old, but he said he has no history of knee problems. While it's possible that he had old damage to the knee, he doesn't think that's the case.

“I’ve never had no knee problems in my life,” he said. “That’s that, man. They’re telling me that’s the way it looks. That it looks like something from an old injury, but I’ve never had problems with my knee. Never. Ever. I don’t know what’s old about it.”

Davenport said he will have his knee scoped to repair his damaged meniscus next Tuesday, and that he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of making it back by the end of the season.
