A man told neighbors that Max, a big, black shaggy dog, woke him up and both the man and the dog escaped a blaze that destroyed the travel-trailer where they lived, officials said. The fire started around 6:25 a.m. in a RV community in the 13500 block of Highway 99, Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said. The man was taken to the hospital for exposure to flames and smoke, she said. Neighbors were caring for the dog. The fire destroyed the trailer, she said. Red Cross officials were responding to help the man. The Snohomish County Fire Mashal’s office is investigating the cause of this morning’s fire.
