McKenna sues Republican Party for alleged illicit pro-Rossi spending

Posted at 10:40 am by Jerry Cornfield

This just in: Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna filed suit today against the state Republican Party, accusing it of breaking state law when it spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on ads supporting its gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi.

The Public Disclosure Commission referred the case to McKenna last week.

This action stems from a complaint filed with the PDC that alleged the Republican Party misused funds from its exempt account for three mailings in support of Rossi.

According to McKenna's office, the state Republican Party must file a response to the complaint within 20 days. A trial date - assuming no settlement is reached before hand - is scheduled for March 29, 2010 in King County Superior Court.

McKenna made the decision to file the suit but will not be handling this case. Authority has been given to Chief Deputy Brian Moran, according to department spokeswoman Janelle Guthrie.

Democratic Party and hypocrisy
The Democrats have done hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of expenditures this year alone, doing this very thing. They do every year.

The number of hypocritical attacks from the Democrats this year on campaign finances is astounding. Especially when they have taken three or four times more money from special interest groups, lobbyists and PACs than the Republicans.

When can we have an honest debate about the future of our state without having to listen to Democratic partisan attacks on the very things they are the most guilty of?

Democrats, you should get your party leaders reigned in. This sleight-of-hand might work for a season, but dishonesty and corruption are untenable tactics. It will all come crashing down quickly and crushingly...just ask the Republicans.
