The movie "Ghost Busters," with Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, is set to be shown at dusk Thursday in the park's amphitheater, 809 E. Fifth St. The children's classic "Where the Red Fern Grows" is scheduled for July 24, and "Grease," with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, is scheduled to play on July 31. Those who come should bring blankets. Free popcorn is to be provided by the Arlington Kiwanis Club. More info: 360-403-3448. Highway 9 closing for culvert installation Highway 9 north of Arlington will be closed Friday night to Monday morning while crews install a 6-foot-square box culvert beneath the highway at Kackman Creek. The new culvert is set to improve fish passage for bull trout and other species, highway department engineers said. The highway is scheduled to be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday at 252nd Street NE, also known as Kackman Road. Drivers will detour around the closure using 268th Street NE, Highway 530 and I-5. During the closure, 252nd Street NE will remain open, but drivers will not be able to get to the road from Highway 9. Two weeks ago crews opened a new, straighter one-mile stretch of Highway 9 to drivers, which also required a full closure of the highway. This weekend's construction closure should be the last in the area, engineers said. In addition to installing the box culvert, crews are scheduled to start work on a retaining wall and barrier at Kackman Creek to prevent the steep embankment from eroding into the creek bed. Later this summer, crews plan to install sidewalks near 268th Street NE, complete new turn lanes at the intersections of 252nd Street NE and 268th Street NE, and complete final paving and striping. Summer vacation jam sessions planned Youth and adults of all abilities are invited to Village Community Services music and art department's Friday Music Jam Sessions, featuring live music by guitarist Jon Dalgarn and the group Voices of the Village. Those who wish to participate are encouraged to bring their own musical instruments, but some percussion instruments and keyboards are available at the sessions. Jam sessions are 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays at 338 N. McLeod St. in downtown Arlington. Children under the age 16 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Village Music and Arts and Voices of the Village are supported, in part, by grants from the state Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Fred Meyer Foundation. Marysville Fire commissioner resigns post Paul Rochon recently resigned his position as a commissioner for Fire District 12 and from the board of directors of the Marysville Fire District. Rochon had served on the Fire District 12 board since 1993. He resigned because he and wife plan to move to Camano Island, outside the fire district. The Marysville Fire District is governed by the three commissioners from Snohomish County Fire District 12 and three members of the Marysville City Council. District 12 includes unincorporated Marysville, the Seven Lakes area and parts of the Tulalip Indian Reservation. Anyone living in these areas is eligible to be appointed to the vacancy left by Rochon's departure. The application deadline is Aug. 8. More info: 360-363-8500.
