FAC hosts abstract photography show

The Edmonds Arts Commission presents an exhibit of abstract digital photographs by Perri Lynch in the EAC display case at the Frances Anderson Center, now through July.

The three large pieces by Perri Lynch that anchor this exhibit are from a series of works that documents the "joyous onslaught" of skateboarding. Digital images are derived from scanned skateboard decks of a professional skater. Colors, textures, scrapes and gouges communicate the essence of the activity as well as the blood, sweat, and tears of going Pro. Lynch is currently working on an installation at the new Seattle Center Skate Park using these kinds of images in a glass fence.

Lynch was raised in Marblehead, Mass. and is currently based in Seattle. She received her MFA in printmaking from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2001. In addition to her studio practice, Lynch performs with the Seattle Phonographer's Union and is an emerging public artist. In 2005, she completed her first permanent public work, "Imbrication" located at the Lake City Library. Her second commission, "Straight Shot" was installed last winter in Seattle's Magnuson Park.

Lynch recently received an Artist Trust Fellowship grant for Interdisciplinary Arts. She has served as a visiting artist at many colleges and universities and leads undergraduate study programs on sustainable design in Southern India. She is currently a graduate mentor through the Transart Institute, Linz, Austria and lecturer at the University of Washington. Her favorite instrument is a hand-held compass.
