Firefighters were called about 3:20 a.m. to the 4000 block of 79th Avenue NE to find a two-story abandoned home engulfed in flames. The Edmonds man, 20, who was on the scene, was arrested by Marysville police, Lake Stevens battalion chief Perry Putnam said. The man was treated for a burn to his leg and taken to Providence Everett Medical Center Colby campus, Putnam said. A second fire was found burning up the wall of another abandoned house about 300 feet away. The cause of each fire is unknown, but fire officials are investigating the blazes as suspicious, Putnam said. The fire is being investigated by the Marysville Police Department, Lake Stevens Fire Marshal and Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office. Firefighters from Getchell and Lake Stevens worked together to bring both fires under control. The fires were discovered by neighbors who reported seeing heavy smoke and flames up the hill from their homes. Firefighters connected about 800 feet of hoses to reach the nearest fire hydrant. They also had to work on a steep, narrow driveway to control the blaze that destroyed the abandoned home. Firefighters worked simultaneously to put out the fire on the outside of the other abandoned home. That fire did just minor damage, Marysville Fire District spokeswoman Stephanie Price said.
