The skydiver had disconnected the chute and used a reserve to make a safe landing, according to fire crews. Someone called 911 just after 2 p.m. to report seeing a skydiver in the river near the boat ramp off First Street. Emergency crews called authorities at Harvey Airfield. They confirmed that all of their skydivers had landed safely. The partially submerged chute was a “cut-away,” according to fire authorities. Skydivers can disconnect a malfunctioning main parachute to be able to open a reserve parachute and land safely.
