Volunteers are needed to drive Catholic Community Services clients to and from doctor appointments and other errands. Flexible driving schedules are available. Mileage is reimbursed. CPR and defensive driving classes are provided at no cost. Volunteers must be over 21 and have insurance, a valid driver's license and a safe running vehicle. For more information, call 425-257-2111. Get in shape with Get Movin' program A coalition of Snohomish County organizations, including the YMCA of Snohomish County, presents the fifth annual Get Movin' program. The free summer program starts June 7 with three kickoff events at Everett Mall, the Alderwood mall and Marysville-Pilchuck High School. It is aimed at helping Snohomish County families improve their health by adopting a more active, healthier lifestyle. The Get Movin' goal is to be active 30 minutes a day, five days a week all summer. To register for the program, attend one of three free events on June 7. Go to Everett Mall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join in the Rotary Hi!5 Fitness Expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alderwood mall. Bookstore kicks off summer reading The Children's Bookshop in Lynnwood presents a Summer Reading Kickoff Party from noon to 6 p.m. May 31 at the shop. Local authors, librarians and teachers plan to help families and children find books for summer reading. Planned activities include book reviews, readings, recommendations and prizes. The event focuses on ages 6 and under from noon to 2 p.m., ages 7 to 10 from 2 to 4 p.m., and ages 11 and up from 4 to 6 p.m. Librarian Barbara McElfish presents to the age 7 to 10 group. Book signings to promote Teens Read The Mukilteo School District, Sno-Isle Libraries and Everett Public Library present two book signings by Terry Trueman for its Mukilteo Teens Read program. Trueman will sign books at 7 p.m. May 28 at the Everett Public Library and again at 7 p.m. May 29 at the Mukilteo Library. Trueman's book "Stuck in Neutral" was chosen for the program's reading selection. Teens Read is a districtwide project designed to stir up excitement about reading and to generate conversations among teens, and between teens and parents. The program continues through May with events, author visits and book signings. Schools also plan to hold gatherings for students to talk about the book, and Trueman plans to speak to students at six Mukilteo School District secondary schools in late May.
