Fire guts Snohomish farmhouse

SNOHOMISH -- Fire investigators are expected later today to comb through the rubble of a farmhouse that was leveled by a fast-moving fire just after midnight.

Two people were asleep in the home, located in the 9000 block of Lowell-Snohomish River Road, when the fire broke out. One man told fire officials he awoke to the sounds of crackling and popping but didn’t see any fire until he stepped outside. He spotted flames through the window of an upstairs bedroom, Snohomish Fire District 4 Deputy Chief Ron Simmons said.

Those inside the home escaped without injuries.

The old house was engulfed in flames and the roof collapsed shortly after firefighters arrived. Firefighters from District 1 and District 7 also helped battle the fire.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. Preliminary reports indicate an electrical problem may have sparked the blaze.
