The man, who was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson, was westbound on 140th Street SW when he crashed into a concrete and brick sign for a housing development, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1. The man died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one else was injured. The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident. Everett: Apartment fire probe continues Fire investigators continue to collect evidence to try to determine what sparked an apartment fire Friday. More than 17 people were displaced from the Copperstone Apartments in south Everett when a fire ripped through a building in the complex Friday afternoon. The fire may have started in a stairwell where an electrical panel and two cardboard boxes of stored items were located, investigators said. The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross opened an emergency shelter for residents. The shelter, which opened Sunday evening, is at the Word of Grace Four Square Church, 206 E. Casino Road. It will remain open for as long as needed to assist with the emergency needs of those affected by the blaze, said Kris Krischano, a local Red Cross spokesman. Anyone who needs to use the shelter is encouraged to bring a blanket, a comforter and a pillow and, for those with children, a stuffed animal toy. Headline News Briefs 14 no:Police chase ends with crash, suspect's arrest A police chase Monday morning ended with a collision that blocked the intersection of 112th Street SW and Highway 99 for several hours, officials said. Snohomish County sheriff's deputies spotted a suspected stolen vehicle just after 11 a.m. near Everett Mall, sheriff spokes­woman Rebecca Hover said. When deputies tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away south on Everett Mall Way and then onto Highway 99, she said. The car crashed into oncoming traffic near the intersection of 112th Street SW. A woman was treated for minor injuries at the scene, Hover said. The man was jailed for investigation of eluding police and possession of a stolen vehicle. Camano Island: Sex offender meeting The Island County Sheriff's Office is planning a community meeting about a registered sex offender living in the 3100 block of Glacier Lane. The informational meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday in the Mabana Fire Station, 3651 S. Camano Drive. Craig Clayton Kiger, 29, was convicted of second-degree assault with sexual motivation, according to the sheriff's office. For more information, call 360-629-4526. Lake Stevens: Truck rolls, man crushed A 43-year-old man was taken to the hospital in serious condition Monday afternoon after a semi truck rolled over him during a repair, officials said. The man apparently was on the ground working on the truck when it accidentally rolled over him, said Lake Stevens Fire District Battalion Chief Larry Huff. Rescuers were called about 1:20 p.m. to the 5000 block of Riverside Avenue, located between Everett and Lake Stevens in the Snohomish River valley. The man was rushed to a hospital. His condition wasn't immediately available. The sheriff's office is investigating the incident. Bothell: 12-year term for terrorizing woman A judge on Monday called the crime spree a "day's reign of terror" before he ordered an Everett man to spend the next 12 years behind bars. Timothy Ray Bland, 27, pleaded guilty last month to kidnapping, assault, burglary and three other felonies in the brutal attack of his ex-girlfriend in July 2007. Prosecutors originally charged Bland with kidnapping and first-degree rape. In an agreement reached with Snohomish County prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to six felonies and the rape charge was dropped. Bland still faces federal drug charges. Before he was arrested, authorities seized $300,000 in connection with a drug case. The victim told detectives that Bland forced her into his car and beat her before driving her to a motel room where he was staying. Inside, he raped her at gunpoint and threatened to kill her, documents said. "Mr. Bland you may be the nicest guy in the world but when you're doing drugs, you're a holy terror," Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Michael Downes said Monday. He ordered Bland to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and seek treatment, and to never have contact with the victim. From Herald staff reports
