Strongly influenced by her Cherokee ancestry and her fascination for animal totems, Sue Coccia brings to Gallery North in May 2008 a colorful and stunning collection of original pen, ink, and acrylic drawings. Each work explores the mythos associated with totemic animals and their emotional human connection. Each is signed using her personal totem, the ladybug which represents good luck, happiness and prosperity.
Coccia, who attended the Burnley School for Professional Art (Seattle Art Institute) and studied with d'Elaine Johnson, recently completed the "Native Pig" commission for the Westin Hotel and the Pike Place Market Pigs On Parade in Seattle. She also has been chosen for a commission at the Muhammad Ali Museum in Louisville, Ky.
The artist's work can be found in collections at the University of Washington and The People for Puget Sound Holdings. Sue Coccia also shows her work at the Gilbert District Gallery in Seaside, Ore.
