Shoreline Community Collegeís new student union building, known as the PUB, opened Wednesday, April 2. The three-story building offers a bookstore, coffee shop, dining areas and mailing services. There are also offices for student clubs and services, places to meet and study and a large dining room that can be rented for events. The building of the PUB was plagued by delays which pushed back the opening several months. Services available this week included beverages, snacks and sandwiches from the PUBís food vendor, Chartwell. Finishing work will continue for the next several weeks. A soft opening will be later this month and there will be a grand opening for the community in September.

Legislators lead effort for community

State Rep. Ruth Kagi and King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson will highlight an all-community meeting titled "Building Community Cooperation" on April 16 at the Schirmer Auditorium on the CRISTA Campus in Shoreline. The free, public meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and is sponsored by Forward Shoreline.

"Shoreline is still a pretty young city," Forward Shoreline Board Chairman Don Sands said. "I think it's fair to say that there's too much contentiousness in our community and that we need to find ways of getting beyond that tendency if we're going to be able to plan for our future. All of us. Together."

Legislators were invited to the meeting so they can help the community identify ways everyone can work together better, Sands said.

"This will be a community 'conversation' in which we invite people to talk with one another civilly and to help establish communication values," he added. "This is a very important community meeting and we urge everyone who can to join us."
